This goal is similar to Goal 9 in some sense. However, this goal is all about the cities and the communities that live in them. Think about your hometown - was it a nice place to live in? Do you think you were breathing clean air? Did you have access to clean water? Did your town’s local administration have good waste management (for example, sorting out trash and recycling what we can, storing the toxic trash away from the city)? Was it a friendly city/town to more vulnerable groups like pregnant women/women with young kids, refugees, elderly people or people with disabilities?
If you answered yes to these questions, then your town is on track with the UN's 11th goal! However, not all people are as fortunate… Worldwide, children and adults living in cities are affected by water shortages, improper disposal of waste or by natural disasters. This is why the UN wants cities to become safer, better and more environmentally-friendly places to live in by 2030. Apart from that, rural areas, like remote villages, will be more connected to the urban or even urbanized, so more and more people will have better life conditions!
Wouldn’t you want everyone to enjoy the pleasure and safety of modern cities? Let’s work together towards this positive future!
