I figure, chances are rather high that you have been to school. I mean, you can read this, so you must have learned that somewhere, right? I can already hear you think: “I wish I didn’t have to go to school, it's really boring sometimes.” But what if you didn’t even have the option to go to school? Unfortunately, today there are still a great number of children around the world who never even get the opportunity to go to school.
At the end of 2019 the United Nations concluded that there were still millions of children and young people in the world who did not have access to education. The current goal that the United Nations has set out to achieve is to ensure that all boys and girls around the globe get a complete, free, quality primary and secondary education by 2030.
However, once again, COVID-19 has come along and made progress very difficult. It is estimated today that by the year 2030 there will still be 200 million children around the world who will not be able to go to school. The impact of COVID-19 is not only felt in the developing world.
According to UN data, 90% of students worldwide were kept out of school during the pandemic. This has reversed years of progress in the field of education as at least 500 million students cannot follow classes from home. The UN is currently thinking about how the damage inflicted by COVID-19 will be undone.
My advice for all kids and adolescents is to strive to be educated. No matter in which circumstances although they can be very challenging at times it would pay off in the long run. The best thing that you can do is to be eager to learn and by doing so, you could motivate and help someone from your surroundings.
